As the summer crowds of tourists flock to the beaches of Florida, so do the fish. Baitfish, Atlantic Menhaden, gather by the hundreds of thousands along the calm shallow waters off the space coast. Making for an easy access to a one of a kind select bait of choice for pelagic gamefish. Cold bottom water moves in this time of year as a dramatic thermocline from the deep makes a surge at Florida’s beaches, pushing groupers, snappers, cobia, sailfish and many more high in the water column and inshore. These fish can easily be hunted in very shallow waters, 60-70 ft is very common. Along with the pileup of random fish, many of these species are spawning at this time by the masses. Snappers swimming up and down the water column on the shallow water wrecks are easy pickings for any willing pelagic angler of the summer here in Florida.
