With the winds finally calming down for a few days, we managed to sneak out offshore for the red snapper mini season. The bite was outstanding. As soon as a bait reached the bottom there was a fish on. Non-stop action from other fish as well, including a good amount of red grouper, goliath grouper, triggerfish, vermillion snapper, and many more. Our choice of bait for the grouper and snapper was mainly pinfish and globs of squid, but those who were fishing may say the bait did not matter. Catching our daily bag limit of 1 red snapper per person per day, we reached our limit with ease. Most of the fish averaged 20lbs with a few stretching the scales to 25. Dodging cold fronts will be the game now, but when you can make it out, the fish are biting! And biting well.
